Heiko Ryll

Guest Photographer / Visual Collaborator

Heiko brings over twenty-five years of creative arts and storytelling experience to Tempest, working at the intersection of commercial photography, documentation and strategic narrative development.

His commercial work includes collaborations with local and international brands, Taste of Edmonton, Revlon Professional, Wella International, and Sebastian International, with recognition at the Alberta Tourism Awards, Contessa Awards, and North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA).

At Tempest, Heiko serves as Director of Photography, building a visual infrastructure across productions, headshots, behind-the-scenes documentation and archival development. His photographic philosophy is rooted in curiosity, play, and continuous learning, shaping his perspective.

Heiko teaches Photography and creative business courses for MacEwan University and is the founder of The Creative Lab, a creative support group for artists struggling to maintain their practice alongside the demands of life. In his photography workshops, the focus is on discovery, offering “ingredients” rather than “recipes” and providing space for participants to explore and develop their unique point of view. He is currently developing the “Responsibility of Story” framework, working with the local community to tell their stories by focusing on access and understanding.

Heiko has become immersed in the local arts community and is available for speaking engagements and consulting on creative education and arts organization development, or for a coffee and a good conversation.
