Inside the Self-Tape

Self-tapes are their own unique beast and doing them well takes more than solid acting skills. This two-day intensive is designed to help you put your best foot forward in the audition room even when that room is your own living space.

Over the weekend we will focus on the technical foundations and creative choices that make a self-tape clear compelling and professional. You will learn how framing shot size lighting eye lines sound and backgrounds support your performance in any space.

We will also dig into performance and audition strategy including strong openings and closings bold specific choices and confident script analysis. You will explore when stillness serves the moment when activity adds energy how to use physicality within the frame and what casting is looking for. We will cover slates what to say how to say it and when as well as when and why doing two takes can be useful. Throughout the weekend the emphasis is on bringing yourself to the work in an authentic grounded way.

Day One focuses on core skills and immediate application. Using a short Actor Role audition of six lines or fewer you will apply technical and performance tools in real time with hands on coaching.

Between Days
You will create a self-tape at home for a small principal sized audition using sides sent in advance. Your tape will be submitted to Brittany by 10 am Sunday.

Day Two Workshopping and Growth
We will review and workshop your tapes together offering personalized feedback to sharpen your choices presence and professionalism. We will wrap with a Q and A and clear next steps so you leave with confidence and a repeatable self-tape process you can use for every future audition.
