Tempest Theatre Presents Noire Unscripted a writing and theatrical performance improvised in real time.
On the Tempest stage, local writer Nikos Theodosakis and three Vancouver master improvisers will create and perform a play based on audience suggestions, the wild musings of Nikos and many, many interruptions to keep them charged, challenged and in the moment.
The unfinished script is performed (sight unseen) by the actors and when they run out of pages, they must continue the plot come hell or highwater and everything in between. Oh, and the writer can interject at any moment to ambush their logic and send them on a wild goose chase. Don’t believe it’s all made up? Then we’ll see you at both shows.
Stories matter to me. They have been my way of exploring and connecting to my ancestors, a way to explain and share my perspective with my family, my friends and sometimes, to wide and diverse audiences around the world.
I’ve explored storytelling through different modes. Photography, music, books, filmmaking, speaking – each offer a particular vocabulary and expression of what wants to be explored. Through all of them, there is a thread of me wanting to connect, to offer my personal experience and invite the audience to find their own personal meaning in that.
And now we explore Improv, I wonder what the hell that’s going to look like!
